ANDROID Projects

Getting Started (Read first)

In August of 2011, my brother and I got Droid 3s. He wanted one so that he could use his Computer Science experience to make apps for it. I was interested as well, so I sprung for the phones. Using the internet, Hello, Android by Ed Burnette, Beginning Android 2 by Mark Murphy, Beginning Android Games by Mario Zechner, and Android Apps for Absolute Beginners by Wallace Jackson, I have programmed (the hard way) to arrive at the state I am in now.

Fifth App (On Google Play)- Color Potato

Ever try to find a person in a dark location? This app allows you to display a potato on your phone and communicate it to your friends. Now they can easily find you without having to resort to outdated yelling techniques.

Fourth App (On Google Play)- Here I Am Friend

Use this app to send your friend an updated location of where you are at. This makes it easy to abide by the requests to update your friend (or mother) where you are at when traveling. It reduces the time spent on this task.

The app sends (via text message) a clickable location based on your phone's GPS coordinates. There are 4 different messages you can create to send. These messages can be customized to fit your own goals or just remain as the default. If you're feeling really wild, you can send a RANDOM text message.

If it is your dad who wants to know your location, you can change your salutation to say "Dad."

Third App (On Google Play)- 1 Call Well Locator Promo

This app allows users to have well number information available on their phone. It is tailored to the North Dakota region, but it could be used anywhere where this type of information is required. The user just has to enter Township, Range, and Section to retrieve the Well Number for the given parameters. It is 100% database driven, local to the phone, so working in areas without cell phone service is no problem. Users create their own database, so they know it is 100% accurate and up-to-date.

Updating the database is as simple as deleting old entries and creating new ones. This could be done while standing right next to a well.

Second App (On Google Play)- DoubleDivider

This will perform two division calculations, side-by-side. It can be used to calculate the cost per unit of any two items for comparison purposes. The "better deal" will be highlighted green.

First App - Hello World

This will create a button that increases in value everytime you press it.

First thing you have to do is enable unsigned applications. Directions for this can be found at the Android Website

Next, you will download the app (.apk file) and e-mail it to your Gmail account associated with your phone. From here, Gmail will recognize it as an app, and you can install the app on your phone.
